The AAirhut GX-14 was more of a chance find, as I’m always on the lookout for affordable and good pastes away from the usual suspects. I paid 8.75 euros for the 8 grams on Amazon 4 weeks ago, but the price then immediately went up to just under 11 euros. In the meantime, the 8 grams have supposedly become only 2 grams, the article description is quite misleading, while the price is still around 11 euros. It would be worth a try, because the title still says 8 grams and the pictures also show the large tube.
Yes, the usual marketing lie with the maximum 15.7 W/mK measured in one tube is also included again, but that didn’t put me off. We are used to gross nonsense by now. The reason for the article, however, is the real performance and the real bulk thermal conductivity of 5.3 W/mK, which I have already briefly spoiled here. That’s not just average, it’s really good. However, we still need to test how well it really holds. But I also have the inflation test for an initial assessment.
There are nice accessories such as spatulas, finger covers and two alcohol pads for cleaning. But be careful! Unfortunately, this is not isopropanol, but cheap ethanol and therefore the slow death of acrylic surfaces (Plexiglas). This should be mentioned to be on the safe side, as these are not designated cleaning wipes but medical disinfectant wipes, for whatever reason they were included. The main thing is a CE mark on the pads, because once again you don’t get safety data sheets or normal information about the paste.
The operating temperature range will be between -20 and 250 °C, because silicone oil, as used in heat-conducting pastes, typically has a maximum temperature resistance of up to around 250 °C and, with very high-quality formulations, even up to a maximum of 300 °C, depending on the chemical composition and the specific additives. But we’ll never reach that anyway.
You’ll find out in a moment whether this paste can be used well in practice and how it performs in the measurements. The paste is not bad, but will it be enough for a real insider tip? Let’s see…
