Schenker introduces a new Ultrabook with Thunderbolt with the SLIM 14

Thanks to a fundamental overhaul, the new SCHENKER SLIM 14 (M18) is considerably slimmer and lighter than its predecessor: the use of a 14 inch thin-bezel display allows its integration into a particularly compact, predominantly aluminium manufactured housing. The Ultrabook uses Eighth Core Intel quadcore processors and offers a good variety of connections for an Ultrabook. For the dimensions (base area: 32.9 x 22.5 cm height: 1.88), the laptop offers some connections. New additions are a multi-stage dimmable, white-lit keyboard. This still offers productive work even in a poorly illuminated working environment. In addition, there is a pleasant pressure point, which does not become unpleasant even after long texts.

Schenker clearly targets the business sector with the SLIM 14. The mobility of this size is aimed at their needs, mobility and performance. The UMTS/LTE modem with SIM card slot allows the laptop to be used on the go. This is rounded off with an i7 or i5, which means that virtual machines are no problem.

The Intel Core i7-8550U (base clock: 1.8 GHz, Turbo: 4.0 GHz) TDP 15 W UHD or the i5-8250U (base clock: 1.6 GHz, Turbo: 3.4 GHz) can be selected as the processor. Intel's UHD Graphics 620 is used as an iGPU. Internally, the SCHENKER SLIM 14 can use up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory. The RAM modules are not permanently soldered in this model, but are housed in conventional SO-DIMM sockets: This allows the memory to be expandable at a later time if required, or easily replaceable in the event of a defect. On the drive side, the Ultrabook holds an M.2 SSD connected via four PCIe 3.0.Lanes or the SATA III controller, as well as mechanical hard drives or SSDs in 2.5-inch format up to a height of 7 mm.

The image is output on a 14 inch matt Full HD display with an IPS panel with sufficiently good brightness (over 300 cd/m2), goo^d contrast values (1000:1) and an acceptable color representation (over 90% sRGB).

The device has a decent choice of connectivity options. A separate 3.5mm jack as audio output and a separate one as an audio input. In addition, an Ethernet port (RJ 45), which is no longer found with every Ultrabook. Three USB ports, including two 3.0 Type-A and a Thunderbolt port (USB 3.1 Gen 2, Type-C), which also connects external monitors. The port allows the connection of another monitor or storage drive and can be used to power connected consumers or to integrate the laptop into Thunderbolt-based networks. Thanks to its low transmission latency, the versatile interface is also suitable for connecting compatible audio interfaces for professional sound recording.

An optional UMTS/LTE modem with SIM card slot allows the laptop to go online over the mobile network.

Availability and price

The SCHENKER SLIM 14, which can be freely configured under mySN.de, is now available at a price of 849 euros for the basic equipment (Intel Core i5-8250U, 8 GB DDR4-RAM, 250 GB Samsung SSD 860 EVO). In addition, fixed configurations are offered via Notebooksbilliger.de, Cyberport, Alt ernate and other online shops.
