The database is finally online and this week I also tested a new paste, the Savio Glacier TG-04, which has made it to the top of the pastes tested so far. Of course, Savio is just a brand and the manufacturer behind the brand, ELMAK, has nothing to do with thermal pastes in terms of production, but it is a really good bought-in product. Of course, this kind of thing triggers me and I went looking for clues this time too.
Day one patch for availability (update)
Mindfactory offered the paste for 12.30 euros until just now, stating “in stock” and a fictitious “external warehouse”, but charging a shipping fee of almost 10 euros. This smells a lot like simple dropshipping and anyone who really wants the paste would be better off ordering or buying it directly from Poland for around 8 euros. As on Amazon, it is once again a typical gold-digger item, where you can make fantastic margins without risk and still not have to stock anything. Such a tiny tube doesn’t cost a single euro FOB in China if you order the right quantities. It is interesting that the availability at MF suddenly dropped to zero this morning and Geizhals only lists Amazon. Coincidence? So we’d better wait for X-Apply and the PastX 50 (spoiler). They will be available in quantities and without outrageous surcharges.
Who is ELMAK and who is Maxtor?
Behind the Savio brand is ELMAK Sp. z o.o. a Polish company that has been developing and producing electronic devices since 1990. In addition to contract manufacturing, ELMAK has been selling electronic accessories under its own Savio brand since 2012, which are manufactured by selected domestic and foreign suppliers according to the company’s requirements. The Savio brand offers a wide range of multimedia and gaming products, including webcams, transmitters, TV boxes, keyboards, headphones and wireless speakers. In 2019, a special gaming product line was added to the range, including cases, headphones, mice, gamepads and now also thermal paste.
Savio’s products are manufactured by selected suppliers that meet ELMAK’s quality standards. Although the specific Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) in China are not publicly named, ELMAK works closely with these partners to ensure that the products meet the company’s high standards. Based on the technical data and measurements, the paste could be from Maxtor in China.
Maxtor is a company that offers the CTG10 thermal compound, among other things. The calculated bulk thermal conductivity of 14.5 W/mK and the other specifications of the Savio Glacier TG-04 match those of the Maxtor-CTG10 very conspicuously to 100%, including the real achievable performance. It can therefore be assumed that Savio buys this paste from Maxtor or has one of these pastes filled there as an OEM mixture and sells it in the EU. The accessories are limited to a small manual and a spatula, the shape and surface of which are also strikingly similar to those of other Maxtor fillings.
With the STG10, you have secured one of Maxtor’s top products, should my assumption be correct. Of course, the paste does not have 14.5 W/mK, but it is one of the current top trio in my database. Reason enough to dedicate an individual test to it. It has a grey color, a density of 2.8 g/ml and a viscosity of 95,000 mPa-s. The thermal resistance is 0.095 °C-in²/W and the paste is not electrically conductive. The operating temperature range is between -50 and 280 °C. It is particularly suitable for CPUs, GPUs and other applications that require efficient heat dissipation. The paste does not harden and is available in various packaging sizes. And now we elegantly move on to the practice and the measurements…
