Summary and conclusion
With this Radeon RX 6900 XT Toxic, Sapphire has certainly created a remarkable, because so completely different graphics card. Whereby one finds a few points with the usability and the acoustic appearance, which make here a new classic in waiting position rather improbable. Yes, the card is fast, it has plenty of reserves in cooling performance and the hybrid concept works even better than expected. But all this happens at the expense of the quiet performance and the annoying pump with its permanent noise also spoils the mood to find this extra nice. If the fans didn’t get you excited beforehand. This is all wasted potential, which one would have liked to have included at an RRP of 1599 euro.
What the manufacturer of the cooling thought about the suitability for everyday use and the possible installation in an existing system is also not quite clear to me. I would have expected at least quick-release fasteners and the ability to mount the CPU, but as it is, this has become a self-sufficient system with an extremely bulky 360mm radiator, which then competes for space with an extra CPU cooler to be positioned. The hoses are bulky and rigid, angle and rotation are not provided.
If you’re going to buy something like this, please do it in quiet and cool. You could certainly have had a more respectable full-cover water block with a pump on it and a flexible loop, because the market easily provides something like that. But without the courage to make technical progress, a real opportunity has been lost. Because the excellently equipped and designed board would have really deserved something better. Which brings us to the highlight. What Sapphire delivers here electrically shows once again the over years stably celebrated competence in AMD graphics cards.
I would also have liked to see a more ambitious design and signature for the Silent BIOS like the Nitro+. To save only 8 watts at the TGP and to increase the target temperature of the fan control by 5 degrees is, excuse the expression, silly and not even close to the target. With 20 watts less, you wouldn’t have even had to raise the target temperatures. For that, almost 200 rpm less revs would have been real balm for the ears. Ok, would then not be the pump, which you then hear all the more.
You can turn it around however you want – the card is extraordinary, and with an RRP of 1599 Euros it’s also extraordinarily expensive, but unfortunately it’s not also extraordinarily good at the same time. It’s a real collector’s item, of course, no question, but if you really want to install it, you’d better plan the whole PC around it thoughtfully beforehand. The chance to install them easily and comfortably in an existing system is rather small, as long as you don’t own a bigger tower with a lot of radiator surface. Ergo: you can do it, but you don’t have to.
However, I still want to say a few conciliatory words at the end. The build quality is above average and the hoped-for reserves are definitely there, because the performance is also far above the reference. The illumination looks quite chic and whether from the front or the back – it really stands out. The card will polarize, that’s for sure. And since the circle of potential fortune cookies in the F5 order lottery should be manageable anyway, there’s no need to complain further. After all, those who are eager to get their hands on this really rare and beautiful piece will know what they’re doing.
The card was provided to igorsLAB by Sapphire under NDA for testing with the condition not to fall short of the specified release date until the NDA falls. There was no possible influence of the manufacturer on the test and the results, nor was there any obligation to publish them. This also applies to the video based on this article.
