Summary
Sapphire has actually done everything right with the RX 6600XT Pulse 8GB. A purpose-built PCB, a sufficiently sized cooler, two acceptable fans and a power limit that creates a healthy compromise between performance and efficiency. The Sapphire RX 6600XT Pulse 8GB is hardly slower than the MSI RX 6600XT from the launch article, but more economical and efficient. It’s not much louder, either, and the cost-cutting pressure hasn’t left a negative mark on Sapphire’s entry-level model…, Well, nothing lights up, but you can well and truly get over that.
Especially in lower resolutions up to WQHD, this card is a safe bet, even if the advantage over the GeForce RTX 3060 is partially less clear than expected. But is it enough to achieve the desired playability still good. In some situations, you will have to turn up the quality slider a bit in WQHD, but only if you need extremely high FPS numbers. It gets way too crowded in Ultra-HD, except AMD doesn’t advertise the card for the high resolutions.
Conclusion and final remarks
Let’s separate the whole thing into chip and board partner card first and start with Navi23. The GPU does exactly what it’s supposed to do and it also fits in well with the portfolio. It is still a safe bet in Full HD and even shows a GeForce RTX 3060 its limits. However, the next bigger GeForce RTX 3060 Ti lacks power, and there is simply nothing to be gained in the average of all games. The sudden weakness in the higher resolutions is symptomatic here as well, but not of concern because the product is explicitly advertised for Full HD.
The Sapphire RX 6600XT Pulse 8GB does everything right within the limits set by the chip. A purposefully equipped circuit board meets an ultra-lightweight yet potent cooler that cools sovereign and yet acts barely audible. This can and must be praised, which is why I do not want to withhold this small award from the card in good conscience. This is, independent of the chip, for the good compromise at the power limit and the general technical implementation of the tested card.
To buy or not to buy? AMD’s GPU fits the target audience, no question. If you are located there, you can buy such a product with a clear conscience. Only the price in the store is always such a thing. Let’s hope for the best, because things can hardly get much worse. Currently, this card is in stock and also available from about 535 euros. This is simply too expensive, but this is not because of Sapphire but because of the senseless overheated market and megalomaniac dealers. AMD and Sapphire can’t do anything about it.
The card was provided to igorsLAB by Sapphire under NDA for testing with the condition not to fall below the specified release date for the case of the NDA. There was no possible influence of the manufacturer on the test and the results, nor was there any obligation to publish them.
