Power consumption and gaming efficiency
The maximum values of a very demanding scene are not the whole truth, because the power consumption of fast cards is actually very resolution-dependent. The RX 6600XT does quite well within its capabilities, beating both the GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti at the socket. To do this, I first have the wattages for both resolutions and the efficiency consideration for the sum of all games.
Power consumption and compliance with standards
There are actually no big secrets when it comes to power consumption, as the card once again sets real standards in this performance class with not even 160 watts. That this could be written about a Radeon would certainly not have been dreamed of two years ago.
Now let’s look at the load of the motherboard slot, which is specified by the PCI SIG with 5.5 Amps. This results in a maximum power of 66 watts at 12 volts. It can be seen very clearly that this limit is undercut very significantly under full load with 2.0 to 2.1 A, even if the maximum power limit is used.
The slightly more detailed curve for Gaming and Torture looks like this, with the long 20 ms intervals still very granular.
