Roccat Vulcan 121 AIMO keyboard in review

Having recently been fully immersed in a world of Cherry MX switches and ultralight mice, I was very excited about these two Roccat products.  On the Vulcan keyboard because I had no experience with Roccat's own Titan Switches. And on the Cain, because I had already become so accustomed to my super light wired mouse. So I was curious what I would think of a rather classic wireless gaming mouse.

Software and Features

At Roccat, almost all of the products run via a central software "Roccat Swarm". When I first started the software, I was immediately asked if I wanted to update the firmware of the two products – I really like that this is the first thing you are asked! Even inexperienced users do not overlook important updates.

Now, when I click on the Vulcan, I start at the General Functions. Here you can set sound feedback, set repetition rates and delays, and reset all settings.

In the next field called "Key Configuration" you can customize and personalize each key as well as any key combination. And in the third field "key lighting" I set the different lighting modes. But only later more.

At the bottom edge of the window you can find the four profiles, here you can also import profiles, set them as the default and if I want more detail, I use the integrated profile manager.

To the right of the Profile Manager is the Macro Manager. Here you can create macros yourself or import and manage pre-made processes for a variety of games.

Lighting modes include some classic effects such as static lighting, the wave and many more. But Roccat also offers its own lighting system called AIMO. This can be found in the software, in the upper bar, next to the detected devices. AIMO works with many of Roccat's products and synchronizes lighting for all connected devices. The colors change in waves or in individual points over the keys and make a strangely organic impression. In addition, the keyboard reacts depending on the input and changes the lighting. Sometimes activated buttons glow in a different color than the rest, and sometimes several light up around them. The system is difficult to explain because it is constantly changing. But I have to say, I kind of like it.

Summary – Roccat Vulcan 121 AIMO

All in all, the Vulcan 121 AIMO is an all-round balanced keyboard. It looks beautiful, is very well processed and makes a very good impression both when playing and typing. I was particularly impressed by the switches, they are not only beautiful to look at – and create an impressive lighting effect – but are also superior to the Cherry MX Red in writing feeling. Whether they are also better than the Cherry MX Silver (also called Speed) I can not say at this time, because I have never got their hands on them before.

So if you want to have a previously rarely presented color show on the table and attach importance to a fast reaction time, you should definitely shortlist the Vulcan 121.
