Functionality and buttons
What you always have with a 65 percent keyboard are the “missing” F-keys or special keys such as push, scroll etc.. These have to be activated in conjunction with the Sharkoon key. This is the circumstance that you put on your desk with such a small keyboard. As the saying goes: if you want one, you have to like the other.
What the PureWriter W65 offers in comparison to the TKL version is wireless operation via a dongle. This allows you to use the keyboard on a laptop when you’re out and about, which I personally prefer. And as many people also use a Mac laptop, the Sharkoon PureWriter W65 also offers dedicated MAC support via a WIN or MAC switch on the side. This means that the user can also use the keyboard options specific to MAC-OS. If wireless operation is used, the keyboard automatically goes into standby mode after five minutes and switches itself off. This saves the battery! One click reactivates the W65 and it starts working again immediately.
For the RGB fans among you: The PureWriter W65’s RGB lighting can be customized to the user’s preferences without the need for software. Two lighting profiles can be saved. There are also 18 lighting effects to choose from, which can be customized in terms of color, intensity, direction and frequency.

The keycaps are made of ABS and the lettering is laser-cut. Unfortunately, Sharkoon does not offer PPT double shot keycaps. This would probably drive the price up again (unnecessarily).
The typing feel is excellent. Of course, this is always perceived differently from person to person. (The linear characteristics of the red Kailh Choc V2 keys are impressive due to the low trigger force of only approx. 43 grams and a trigger travel of only 1.3 mm. Compared to the PureWriter TKL, which I usually use on a daily basis, you notice a certain difference that can’t really be described.
Typing on the PureWriter W65 somehow feels different to typing on the PureWriter TKL. After about a week of getting used to it, I wish I had the same keys on the PureWriter TKL. The sound is also completely different, which has a positive effect on the writing experience. And you can hear that on the next page.
