Commissioning
Once everything is ready, the Plus4 asks us to load filament into the PTFE tube on the left.
Depending on the material, the appropriate temperature should then be set; 200°C is sufficient for PLA.
We then tap “Load” until filament is pressed out of the nozzle.
This means we are almost ready for operation, which is confirmed by the touchscreen. However, red lettering on a dark background is not the best choice.
We will follow the request to calibrate in a moment, here is an overview of the surface.
But before we do anything, let’s install the latest OTA update!
My model was delivered with V1.0.0, the first update was then directly to V1.3.2, but I’ll have a few more words to say about that later.
Once the update is complete, the print bed should be leveled immediately afterwards.
The wizard guides us through the process and we then fine-tune the Z distance ourselves.
It is definitely worth mentioning at this point that there are still small adjusting screws hidden under the large print bed, which should be used to align the bed as straight as possible. Because then the offset mesh measured by the sensor doesn’t have to compensate as much.
The mesh can then also be created directly via the Auto Bed Leveling item in order to check the results.
The best way to do this is to display the visualization in the Fluidd web interface and adjust the cog in the corresponding corner.
As you can see, the variance can be significantly reduced with a little sensitivity, which benefits the printed image immensely.
Slicer
Of course, there is also a separate program for preparing the print files, in this case QIDIStudio. Since it is based on Bambu Studio, which in turn is based on PrusaSlicer, the program is open source and also availableon GitHub. I used version 1.9.5.51 and later 1.9.7.53 for my test.
On the whole, the program is quite well made, I have seen worse versions of the well-known slicers. Alternatively, you can simply use the independent OrcaSlicer, which also offers native integration and existing profiles. In fact, QIDI even supports the further development and is a sponsor of OrcaSlicer.
Various settings and the video feed can be accessed via the web interface using Fluidd. As the options available there are very extensive, I will leave it at this point with a few screenshots.
