Tower coolers are the so-called downblowers (fans that simply blow the air down like AMD and Intel boxed fans) in many cases, even if it is for the environment such as the voltage converter could be detrimental. However, in this case, it is essential to pay attention to the correct installation direction due to the design! Since many errors can already occur in this area, let us first look at the installation possibilities and then summarize the most important rules.
Vertical assembly mainly hits coolers that have been used for all Intel-based systems and newer AMD coolers. Older coolers for the sockets AM2, AM3 or AM4 often require a special mounting system in order to be able to install the cooler 90° turned! This must be observed in advance or you can conveniently buy a cooler with a suitable mounting kit.
Of course, a tower cooler can also be placed in systems with the power supply installed above. in this case, the schematic representation looks like this:
It should be noted here that the rear wall must be perforated or contain a ventilation opening! It is even better if an abusing fan has been installed in the rear wall. This in many cases replaces the second fan on the cooler. Of course, this can still be optimized:
The airflow can also be improved with the power supply at the top, if you also suck in additional cold air from the ground:
