The NZXT C1500 is a powerful and high-performance power supply that can deliver up to 3000W of power for short periods of time if required. With the upcoming NVIDIA RTX 5090, you are definitely on the safe side with a 1500W ATX v3.1 compliant power supply.
Reason enough for me to once again let my friend Aris from Hardwarebusters have his say (and picture) on our site, as he has not only tested this power supply intensively, but has also officially certified it through his company Cybenetics. As it will certainly be of interest to you, I am happy to offer him the platform to share his findings with you here on a case-by-case basis. And don’t forget, his website and YouTube channel also offer real gems in the form of really well-founded reviews! This PSU is also featured in his article on the best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x power supplies.
The C1500 is the flagship NZXT power supply and utilizes a modern platform provided by Channel Well Technology. It can deliver up to 1500W continuously and up to 3000W momentarily, meeting the stringent ATX v3.1 requirements. This is not a power supply for the average user, but is aimed at very demanding users who want to push high-end and power-hungry CPUs and especially GPUs to the max. If you flash your RTX 4090 with a “special” BIOS that allows up to 1000W of power, a capable 1500W PSU or an even more powerful PSU is required. Don’t expect performance increases that justify the crazy increase in power consumption in such “special” usage scenarios. Still, there are always people who want to push their hardware to the limit, and I can’t blame them, because I did that too many years ago.
The C1500 is called Platinum because of its 80 PLUS rating. Yet Titanium uses more than 1450 different load combinations in the Cybenetics scheme to calculate its ratings, as opposed to a handful considering 80 PLUS. Using only a few load points to calculate the efficiency of a power supply is inaccurate. That would have sufficed 20 years ago, but times have changed and we should improve every certification protocol and standard we use and not get stuck in the past. Thanks to the versatility of the Cybenetics scheme, the 1450 different load levels can easily be extended to 3000 or even 10,000 if required, without having to significantly change the basic certification scheme.
Back to the C1500: it uses a fully modular cable design, and its dimensions are larger than usual because it is a powerhouse. With a depth of 180mm, you can’t call it large as other power supplies of similar capacity are much larger. Take the Seasonic TX-1600 for example, which is a whopping 210mm long! I don’t really like small, one-dimensional power supplies, or to put it simply, high power density power supplies, because in most cases their output noise is extremely high due to restricted airflow on their internal parts. A crowded PCB with components that have to handle high power quickly develops high temperatures, so the fan has to operate at high speeds to handle the increased thermal load. Well, let’s see.
