The fact that NVIDIA has been struggling with problems relating to its 50-series graphics cards for some time is probably common knowledge by now. In the past, we have already reported several times on various difficulties, but also on the measures NVIDIA is taking to counteract them. One of the biggest problems concerned the drivers for the cards, as these sometimes resulted in the affected graphics cards only displaying a black image. Although several driver updates have already been released to fix this behavior, NVIDIA is now following up with another update that specifically targets the RTX 5060.

Although the RTX 5060 is still relatively new on the market, it seems to suffer from the same problems as other models in the series. According to the report, there is a problem when the system is restarted. After the restart, only a black screen is displayed. It is important to note that NVIDIA explicitly points out that the new update should only be installed if this exact problem occurs, i.e. the screen remains black after a restart.
To ensure compatibility with certain motherboard SBIOSes, an update to the NVIDIA GPU firmware may be required. Without the update, GeForce RTX 5060 series cards in certain legacy motherboards could experience blank screens on reboot. This update should only be applied if blank screens are occurring on reboot.
NVIDIA also provides instructions on how to fix the problem:
-
Completely power down your system before booting
-
Ensure you are using the latest SBIOS from your motherboard vendor
-
Ensure you are in UEFI boot mode and not Legacy/CSM
-
Boot using an alternate graphics source (secondary card or integrated graphics)
-
After powering on your system, wait for your operating system to load with the graphics driver installed
The 5060 is a relatively new card that relies on a GB206 chip and comes with 3840 CUDA cores and 614 AI TOPS. It has 8 GB GDDR7 memory and is said to have a speed of 28 Gbps over a 128-bit system. The graphics card has a TDP of 145 watts and is said to be in the mid-range segment. The base clock is 2.28 GHz, while the card packs 2.5 GHz in the boost clock. Whether NVIDIA’s update really works in the end will probably become clear in the near future.
