Fan curve and operating noise (“volume”)
Now we come to what automatically arises when the waste heat is removed: various fan noises. The measurements in the measurement chamber are, as always, a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed side window. Therefore, I’ll manually adjust the fans later to the values I measured during gaming and torture in the closed case and leave the setup open. The 1400 rpm in 160-watt mode is barely audible. That’s quite good at first. In the stress test, it’s then already just under 1500 rpm, which also still fits.
But what does the measurement for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti FE 8 GB? show? I analyzed the 160 watt variant here. You can see nicely in the frequency analysis how the sound carpet splits up. With 31.8 dB(A) in the gaming loop and just under 150 watts, none of this is an issue, even though we can again see the minimal harmonics of coil and capacitor buzzing in the area from about 4 KHz. But it’s not really much this time.
In the torture test, the fans have to work a little harder, but it’s nothing that would be acoustically distracting.
Coil noise: “Coil Whining”
Therefore, we still have to talk about one point and that is once again the tiresome coil whining, even though it turns out pleasantly low here and is only audibly noticeable at FPS rates above 400 FPS. I already wrote that the card spits a bit in the load peak measurements. Especially since the five phases have to work hard. More about this topic can of course be found here:
