The increased memory bandwidth is definitely applied at higher resolutions, which can also narrow down the planned target group for this card. If you play on Full HD, you better buy the "old" GeForce RTX 2080 lead-free normal, which will surely give way in price. If it has to be such a card for this resolution at all. Now the 144 Hz monitor faction will certainly roar indignantly, because the card can do it if you don't overdo it in the settings.
But the real added value really only comes with higher resolutions from WQHD. If you want to play on Ultra-HD, which is quite possible with intelligently selected settings, then that goes quite well, whereby you will never reach a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Even with overclocking, you don't even see the taillights. However, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti also costs significantly more and remains an absolute exception in the fast lane in terms of performance in addition to the RTX Titan.
What should not be left out of sight: Nvidia already has an absolute monopoly in this performance class. This is certainly annoying for many end users, but cannot be blamed on the manufacturer. If there is an alternative in red up to the GeForce RTX 2070 Super V-Power Ultimate, the GeForce RTX 2080 without Super is a class in itself. And that's exactly what you'll feel at the price. This is the market and its mechanisms also work for graphics cards.
RTX On?
And I want to lose a word about DXR / RTX On, because in the end there will be more and more titles that use the various features. However, the new super card has only 2 RT cores more like the unsuperrated RTX 2080 and the number of tensor cores has only increased slightly. Big jumps in ray tracing are not to be expected. If you need more power here, you have to buy the permanent left-link continuous flasher GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.
At this stage of the whole Raytracing story and the RTX maps of the first generation, I (older fellow citizen) think of it as a quite appropriate comparison of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. In the end, it was quite expensive for everyone, but also beneficial. So the new Super-2080 with the eiA that has been requested costs 15.7 percent more, if you could see this as a limit for the entry-level models. So you pay about 10 percent more power for the less than 10 percent more power. 15 percent more at the RTX box office.
