Every laptop owner knows the problem: with intensive programs or games, an average device quickly reaches its performance limits. This is because the built-in GPUs are not designed for high performance. However, gaming laptops also sometimes reach their limits. But how can this problem be solved? With a more powerful graphics card – but this requires an additional power supply. This is where eGPU cases or docks come into play, and AOOSTAR offers an interesting solution with the new AG01 EGPU Dock.
The AG01 EGPU Dock promises some interesting things that may be of interest to some. It features an open metal case design with an aluminum alloy center frame. The dock measures 22.5 x 11 x 6 cm and weighs 1.5 kg, which is also very suitable for transportation. The highlight of this eGPU dock is that you can use any graphics card without being limited to a maximum size. This is definitely an advantage, as powerful graphics cards are often large and therefore require a lot of space.
However, there are some limitations and recommendations from the manufacturer. Despite the integrated customized Huntkey 400W power supply, the graphics card should not exceed a power consumption of 250W. This is at least one of the company’s recommendations. In addition, the AG01 EGPU Dock offers an OCuLink interface with an effective bandwidth of 64 Gbps for PCIe 4.0 x4 lanes and is hot-swappable for the TGX interface of the 2024 Lenovo ThinkBook 14 / 16 Core Edition laptops.
But how much does all this fun cost? AAOOSTAR states that the device will cost 149 dollars or approx. 136 euros. So that’s a higher price to invest. The AG01 EGPU Dock is now available for pre-order.
AAOSTAR also has a solution for those who want to see the whole thing visually to get an overview. They have published a YouTube video on the whole subject, which you can watch here:
