MSI RX 5700 XT Gaming X review – Radeon power pack with good genes and also a good thirst

Summary of the

For having managed to add Gaming X to the current fastest board partner card for the RX 5700 XT, MSI gets an extra performance point. However, as this was bought with a significantly higher power consumption, in return you are already at 9 on the Greta 10 points damnation scale. I was able to show with a simple brake that this card has potential in the silent range. The only thing you could really blame MSI for here is the lack of a second, foam-braked BIOS.

But what you have well under control is the board with a really functional and good equipment. The Dr.MOS Power Stages from Infineon are good and efficient. Which again stays nice and cool. The cooling also manages the up to 270 watts with a rather tired shrug of the shoulders and for the once again strange fan control MSI can’t do anything either. With Sapphire there were even sawtooth-like curves in the end, here it is a bit strange in the stress test. The influence of the individual parameters on each other is really a crux, because many things don’t react logically and therefore predictably.

The workmanship is high and the lack of metallic applications can be overcome. The inclusion of the backplate in the cooling concept has been implemented with great ease and is extremely effective. Which brings us to the two “half” pads on the RAM. Even if the whole thing could (and should) have been solved differently – I prefer a balanced contact pressure on the GPU and the memory to a misalignment, which the boisterous do-gooders then force to align with washers. We already had that with the Evoke and it is not expedient to act with almost 0.6 Nm, only to prove itself on others something. The cooling of the two modules works anyway and I hadn’t been able to measure any improvements with special softpads on the Evoke in some re-tests. That’s why I won’t give more weight to this optical disadvantage this time either.

Bottom Line

There are hardly any points of criticism, apart from the drinking habits. But there is also our tool to let the legal guardian hang out here. Throttle and the world is more than okay. MSI speaks unfortunately of an UVP within the range around 480 euro and exactly therefore I refuse for it also the purchase tip. The Powercolor Red Devil is similarly performant, also has a dual BIOS and is currently with 465 euros also a tick cheaper.

If the card already had a water block (spoiler?!), it would be an ideal candidate for overclocking. The solution to realize the complete power supply of the GPU exclusively via the two 8-pin connectors is a good one and in the end also protects the motherboard. From this point of view, Gaming X is the much better Evoke, which only offers added value in ITX systems due to its brevity. Fat part the whole thing.
