MSI B550i Gaming Edge Wifi in the Hands-On - Nice technology in a small form factor

In the course of a soon to be released crossover project of my two hobbies hardware and 3D printing MSI kindly provided me with this board. And even though mainboards are not really my area, I took a closer look at it within my possibilities. The following is the short test:

Packaging and scope of delivery

Compared to the almost container-like boxes of some high-end ATX boards, this board’s is almost cute. Hardly bigger than the ITX form factor itself, yet packed with all sorts of descriptions. For once, the front is not adorned with a product picture, which we only find together with the most important features on the back.

Despite the small size, the board is protected from the inside by multiple folded cardboard and of course wrapped in antistatic foil.

The accessories are seemingly extensive, but largely consist of “instruction leaflets” and promotions:

Only the manual, WLAN antennas, two SATA 3.0 cables and the M.2 screws are really relevant.

ATX kann jeder, aber bei ITX dürften die Hersteller mal zeigen, was die Designstube hergibt :D
Ich freue mich schon bald endlich zeigen zu können, woran ich so gewerkelt habe :)

Hmmm. Irgendwie auch nix anderes als das ASUS B550-i Strix.

Innovativ bzw. mal was anderes wäre, die restlichen Lanes nicht brachliegen zu lassen sondern für irgendwas Gescheites zu nutzen, 10gbit NIC oder so...

Und ein M.2 Steckplatz sitz genau unter dem heißen Chipsatz, genau wie bei meinem "MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC". Die SSD heizt sich da im Standby bereits auf 60°C auf, was mich dazu veranlasst hat, das Gehäuse zu modifizieren und einen 80mm Lüfter von unten auf die SSD blasen zu lassen. Und der kleine Lüfter auf der Oberseite des Boards wird wahrscheinlich mehr Lärm machen, als das er Luft bewegt. Ein intelligentes Kühlsystem "mit ohne" Lüfter wäre klasse! Z.B. mit Heatpipes in Verbindung mit grossen passiven Kühlkörpern.

Das Problem, dass ich mit den kleinen Quirls habe ist, dass diese, wenn sie neu sind und die Qualität stimmt, oft wirklich leise sind.
Wenn sie allerdings mal ne Weile gelaufen sind, werden diese gerne mal lauter. Da sie aber normalerweise properitär sind, kriegt man keine
passenden Ersatzlüfter und man muss frickeln.

Da bin ich auch schon gespannt! Vor allem, was da mit dem 3D-Druck möglich ist. Der Artikel damals war schon sehr spannend, das hat echt mein Interesse an der Technik geweckt.
Zum Board kann ich nur sagen, dass ich ja mittlerweile auf MSI schwöre. Sieht auch ganz nett aus. Aber für mich kann ich mir gerade keinen Einsatzzweck hinsichtlich ITX vorstellen.

Das hat weniger I/O, kein integriertes Panel und kostet 50 Euro mehr.

Auf sich der Auspreis für 10G lohnt wage ich zu bezweifeln, das wird am Ende wohl kaum jemand nutzen.
