Optics and haptics
We have the Midnight Black variant in front of us here, but optionally the keyboard is also available in Gunmetal Grey, which was funded through the Kickstarter Stretch Goal. The general design is (still) very simple, the milled plate under the keys is framed by a brushed aluminum frame.
On the bottom, things get really interesting for the first time, because the USB cable can be routed in all directions via a multitude of cable channels. Just as it suits your own setup or desk. And neither the keyboard nor the palm rest have been spared on anti-slip rubber pads.
The first big differences to other keyboards are noticed in the side view, where the two USB Type-C ports with magnets are located. This is used to connect the optional numpad, more on that later.
The front then features two more USB Type-C ports for accessories as well as a regular Type-A passthrough.
Here is the measured bandwidth of the USB port on the keyboard compared to direct connection to the mainboard as well as front USB on the case:
This allows you to work with fast external memories without any problems, praiseworthy! Often these ports are only connected with USB 2.0, but here it is much faster. Thanks to the included magnetic spacers, the angle of the keyboard can be easily adjusted to your own needs. However, it should be remembered that it takes at least three, more likely four “pucks” per level increase. Otherwise, a piece of the keyboard floats freely in the air, which you feel immediately when writing.
I am very satisfied with the overall workmanship, but in this price range you should expect nothing else. Everything feels quality, only the ABS keycaps seem a bit cheap to me. Sets made of PBT can probably be purchased separately in the shop if you absolutely want to.
