Active or better passive cooling? The GeForce GT 1030 in a practical comparison!

Gigabyte GT 1030 Low Profile and Low Profile Silent We have deliberately opted for the low-profile form factor, as this type of card is likely to be used mainly in the area of small and very small PCs. And this is exactly where we will be... The Gigabyte GT 1030 Low Profile The active card is a whole 15.0 cm long (from the outside of the slot panel to the end of the cooler) and 6.5 cm high (from top board slot to top edge cooler). Summary Given the resource disadvantages of the GeForce GT 1030 compared to the Radeon RX 550, the smallest current Nvidia card with the GP108 actually compensates for these deficits quite well. Dota 2 (volcano)

The results from our launch article for the Radeon 550X had already given us an approximate preface to what could be possible with such small cards at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and more medium quality settings. That's why we were quite optimistic that the GeForce GT 1030 could keep up. And behold, it's even enough to keep the Radeon RX 550 under control.

What is immediately noticeable, of course, is that all cards run into a kind of CPU limit, where the Nvidia cards can consistently operate at a slightly higher level than the two Radeons.  Our detailed graphics provide information about playability and immersion:

But what happens when you set the graphics quality to the maximum? Then the world (and the hierarchy) is fine again and the GeForce GT 1030 slips down again. However, the Radeon RX 550 4GB affords itself a bad lapsus here, also in direct comparison to the older RX 460.

Anyone who has noticed that the GeForce GTX 750 Ti is missing in this list is absolutely right. Although the map is supposed to be compatible with the Volcano API, the game hangs up immediately. A measurement was therefore not possible reproducibly.  In winnings and losses, this is the case for the other cards in detail:

World of Warcraft (DX11)

The good old classic is of course a concentrate for graphic gnomes and so the performance of all the cards does not really surprise us. Only the Radeon RX 550 falls a little short of expectations and thus out of the grid with this DirectX11 title. However, we must not forget that quality level 4 does not mean mahr as a sly mediocrity in graphics.

In direct comparison to the previous review, we were surprised to find that our results for the Radeon RX 550 and 460 were lower in quality level 4, nor did we read the rx 550 launch article. Fortunately, we back up the screenshots of our test platforms every time a game is configured, so we could also determine that level 4 today means that the texture resolution has been set to "High", 8 x anisotropic filtering and texture projection applied. In April, Level 4 provided for much simpler and more conservative attitudes.

Interesting is the good performance of the GTX 750 Ti and it is confirmed once again that Nviddias cards were able to gain from older DirectX11-based titles, while AMD cards with GCN were more likely to look at DirectX12 and Volcano-based titles. front, as long as the CPU is not limited.

If we are so malicious to push the controller to the right to level 7, this has dramatic negative consequences especially for the GT 1030, because the average frame rate drops to 44 FPS. Even now, a GeForce GTX 750 Ti from the year 2014 of the GT 1030 can show where Bartel gets the must. Only the Radeon RX 550 and naturally integrated HD-Graphics 530 fare worse.

This picture is confirmed once again in the details. If you are looking for the performance of the GeForce GTX 750 Ti, which is still available in residual stock, you should rather follow the GTX 1050, which is about as cheap to buy. The 30 euros more compared to the GT 1030 are certainly well invested money.

StarCraft II (DX11)

Well, this game definitely leaves out as an argument pro or contra. All cards perform more than just acceptable, with huge differences compared to the built-in Intel graphics.

This is also confirmed by the detailed graphics, which attest to all the cards that have just been written.
