KFA2 GeForce RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames in review – KFA2 annoys premium vendors with new board, usable fans, lots of RGB and a starry sky

Board design

KfA2 relies on a fairly solid 7+2 phase design (8-phase RTX 2080) for this card, which shares the same board with the RTX 2080 Super WTF, in which the 7 GPU phases (VDDCR_GFX) each control loop. This is done by the MP2888A from Monolith, which directly controls the 7 voltage converters. Each of the VDDCR control circuits has a DrMOS MP86990 Power Stage from Monolith. Both the controller and the power stages are actually more likely to be found in the server area and they are significantly better than the (even more expensive) components of ON Semiconductor. This is then smoothed with a normal 220 nH coil. 

The memory (MVDD) is supplied with two phases, which are generated by an MP2884A. An MP86990 with a 470 nH coil are then used again as voltage converters for smoothing. Samsung's eight 1GB memory modules of 14 Gbps are then connected to these two phases. The 8-pin and 6-pin connectors are not secured, but a smoothing coil and shunt for monitoring can then be found a little further away in the supply line to the voltage converters. The efficiency of both voltage converter ranges is certainly not a bad one.

Two custom ARM controllers are used for the 4-channel aRGB control of the radiator side and the 1-channel RGB of the backplate. On the back, there are few active components except for the PWM controller of the GPU, which includes the voltage converters for various partial voltages, but also the fan hubs.

Cooler design

Here you can rely on a large slat cooler with vertically arranged cooling fins, two 8 mm and four 6 mm heatpipes made of nickel-plated copper composite material. The GPU heatsink is made of copper and carries the back soldered heatpipes. A screwed-on, circred light metal frame is used for mounting on the board and cooling the 8 RAM modules.

The voltage converters are cooled via a separate heat sink anchored in the cooler. This is exemplary and can also be noticed later naturally in the temperatures. Even the coils are actively cooled here. The rear-lit backplate made of ABS injection moulding is purely optical in nature and cannot be included in the cooling concept.

The fans have also come up with something different this time. The new rotor blade geometry and a special coating should on the one hand offer more throughput and pressure at low volume and on the other hand not so easily absorb the dust.

Of course, I couldn't test whether the latter works this way for a long time. But they shine beautifully, even something. The HJB bearings are also new, which the manufacturer proudly points out:
