Can’t be killed: Boxed coolers and push pins
Of course, this is nothing for the big models, but Alter Lake-S will also (have to) come out with smaller CPU models, whose power dissipation and thus thermal load will be much lower. For this, too, there are already quite concrete construction plans and specifications, based on the new base. And again, unfortunately, the old coolers will not fit. My collection from the old bolides with copper core (like the legendary Q6600) can then unfortunately no longer replace the aluminum lightweights of the later generations as a solid workaround in an emergency.
The boxed cooler is symmetrical, so the mounting direction does not matter. However, it will sit, socket-conditioned, clearly lower, than still the predecessor model for the older sockets up to LGA1200 (H5). What the current drawings don’t reveal is the answer to the question of whether or not there will be a separately pressed-in copper core again. Whereas I only see the boxed cooler on models in the 65 watt class, because anything above that was already way too much with the current generation of boxed coolers.
This brings us to the end for today, because the details of the base do not belong in the public domain for the time being. You don’t have to leak everything (at once). However, I’m not subject to an NDA here and, by the way, I’ve never broken one, so I attach great importance to that. By the way, I was and am always open for discussions.
