[UPDATE]Audio Roundup: The best gaming headsets in comparison test

Introduction and scope of delivery

A 5-piece name. as bulky as a 40-tonne truck with a trailer? With gaming downsy, that must be the case in order to be able to swim along properly. And so, unfortunately, the most important part in the name is at the very back: Wireless.

So we would have a wireless headset in the test, which comes with nice lighting effects and software support including emulated surround, but can be used immediately with the enclosed dongle without any downloads via Plug & Play. Of course, only if you have charged it completely beforehand.

The current street price of just under 80 euros makes you quite curious, just like the advertised surround effect, although we already have a lot of work to do with this technique in the basic article "Myth Gaming Headset: Pure Marketing Blabla or Real Advantage when Playing?" tested and written.

The scope of delivery is convenient, but not lavish: headset, detachable microphone, USB charging cable, as well as the USB transmitter as an interface to the PC.

Optics and haptics

Due to the built-in, quite long sufficient battery and the necessary electronics, the headset zwr does not appear chunky, but quite massive. The silk-matt-black plastic surfaces are relatively insensitive to fingerprints and leave a pleasantly positive impression overall. Instead of a textile covering for ear pads and ironing pads, you rely on quite simple PU leather imitation, which can be quite sweaty with prolonged wearing.

Although the headset is visually in black and wine red, it can also be accentuated differently by means of LED effects on the ear muses. We'll be there for that too. What actually looks good, however, does not seem over-stable at second glance, because almost everything of the rather thin-walled plastic construction is glued and there are no switched-on matall applications for stiffening, except for the handle.

The rest is quickly told, because it is designed so simple and inconspicuous that it is already noticeable again. We find this quite positive, because Dragonmegaforcewinner bling bling headsets are usually not for longer friendships and the zeitgeist always changes faster than you can even say pugs.

However, the joy could also be quickly clouded if the processing does not later keep what it might promise at first glance. Unfortunately, we do not have any possibilities to carry out real long-term tests. Here, user feedback on various sales platforms should also be consulted, whereby such comments should of course always be enjoyed with the necessary caution.

Comfort

This headset is also considered to be part of everyday life for many Asian products: large heads have been forgotten in the development of adequate test persons due to the lack of adequate test persons. For a head-to-head of 60 cm and more, it is better to prey elsewhere, because that will be nothing, because the pressure just becomes too strong.

Not that you couldn't adjust the handle so far, no, that's fine. But the contact pressure remains and it is also revenge that you can rotate the earcups vertically, but not adjust ebefnalls on the horizontal axis. This means: folding to the sides is really perfect, only upwards or downwards you just can't move the shells.

Functionality and connection

Since it is a wireless headset that operates in the 2.4 GHz band, a lot of technology needs to be stowed away. The electronics are located in the right shell, so that the volume control and the power switch are placed on the right. All this is good, as well as very intuitive to reach and also to use. The on/off button is also illuminated when the headset is active. One is therefore also informed about the operating status, because this LED indicates the status.

On the left side is the microphone, so that you have placed the Mute button right there according to the logic. Again, the grip is hardly ineffective, because the position fits perfectly.

The connection is realized via a USB dongle, which contains the complete transmitter. The audio data can be transmitted uncompressed and thus largely without delay. The connection (connect) worked in any case without any problems, only with the range one loses valuable meters when the stick is at the back of the PC. Here you should use the stick on the front USB or better take a USB extension cable and position the stick at the top of the worktop.

Conveniently, as already mentioned, the shells can be rotated vertically and then folded completely into the 90-degree angle. This means that this will be the 7 cm high headset also more space available for transport, because it is not quite as bulky anymore.

In the end, not only all the sound effects can be set via the software to be downloaded, but also the LED illumination. However, because these are known standard functions in detail, we save ourselves a more detailed description. One can be divided about the use of the surround efke, we just want to refer to the above already inserted link to our basic article in this regard.

Charging is done in less than 90 minutes, especially since the supplied USB connection cable is also long enough for charging to be able to continue listening while charging. With 8 to just under 16 hours, depending on the volume, the headset is certainly not a bad solution.

Microphone

The microphone with ball characteristics is plug-in and removable, which greatly increases the practical benefit and also accommodates the occupied space during transport. The plug-in connection is safe and tactiletoally easy to detect, an additional pop protection reduces wind noise and the acoustic, as well as electrical consequences of even too damp pronunciation.

The low-cut at approx. 100 Hz works as it should, but from our point of view the frequency range with an upper limit of 6.5 KHz is a bit too narrow. A capping at 8 KHz would certainly have been better. The noise reduction works, but ends at higher levels sometimes quite quickly in clipping. The speech intelligibility is quite fine, even if it can't keep up with very good microphones.

Measurements and sound check

Ba-de-Wan-ne pure! If it weren't for the dent at exactly one kilohertz, whose talfart starts at about 200 Hz and only ends at 2.2 KHz as the end of the steep ascent – you could actually be quite satisfied. Bass and upper bass are at a similarly high level, which not only sounds better, but also avoids the undifferentiated roaring and rumbling of cheap gaming headsets. So it always remains a question of the point of view, whether it is a dent of the middle down or a strong increase in the depths and highs.

The bass is good and present and actually free of annoying resonances. Up to the lower middles the world is still okay, but then the acoustic descent begins, whose apex is almost exactly one kilohertz and thus bears a character that can not satisfy you so much.

Since the middles in particular have been reduced so much, the most interesting and important area for locating suffers the most. This is revenge for the music playback by a very constricted stage and in gaming by a bad location behavior, because above all the diffuse sound with the spatial information (runtime differences!) is very negatively affected. Here, the too well-intentioned sounding breaks almost everything you need as an ambitious gamer in terms of information.

But not only the spatial image suffers from this sounding, but also the reproduction of the voice, instruments and very wide-band sounds that we find in games to hon. While the vocals (and many instruments) can please in the basic tone range, character and voice/sound color suffer more in the middle than you might like. In addition, there is the slight overemphasis on the hissing squids (sibilants) and the high- and Super hightones, which is not everyone's taste.

Now it is not the case that the already quite potent 50mm drivers are scrap per se. But you have to try the equalizer to raise the range around 500 Hz a little bit and that at a kilohertz a little more clearly. In reverse, of course, you could also lower ups and downs in broad areas, but any filter that can be avoided is always an added value. So then it is better to raise only two areas and, if necessary, to reduce the overall level a little.

All these things can be done quite neatly by software, so that you can already achieve a proper solution of the sounding with just a few simple steps. The disadvantage of these facial cosmetics, however, is that you are really forced to install the appropriate software.

Conclusion

You can't really lose anything for just under 80 euros, unless you can't cope with the tight seat at larger head sizes. Then the too great bending resistance of the handle takes revenge together with the lack of adjustment for the adjustment of the ear cups on the horizontal axis.

The very strong sounding is a matter of taste, but can be mitigated with just a few simple steps or almost neutralize it. Then, but only then, the location during gaming and a balanced music playback with the note are satisfying to good to evaluate. The 3D surround effect is based on listening experience and thus also on imagination.

The functionality goes fine, the long running time of over 12 hours with normal, not extremely noisy use as well. If you like it louder, you have to get back to the charging cable. The range of more than 8 meters with optimally aligned USB transmitters is sufficient.

It is by no means a top product, but no top price is required in return. And so the product moves at a level that can confidently be described as a solid middle class without having any special highlights or mistakes.

Technical data and availability

Finally, let us summarize the technical data in a table. The headset has been on the market for some time, so the price has already settled into interesting regions.
