GTBOX launches its new eGPU, the G-Dock with USB4 and OCuLink

Many people are familiar with the problem of traveling with a laptop or mini PC. You have a device that you want to use for both work and play. However, the latter can quickly become a challenge, as there can be a problem with graphics-intensive games in particular. The performance of older devices or integrated graphics chips is often simply not sufficient. However, there are various solutions to counteract this and one of them is the use of an external graphics card, or eGPU for short. The GTBOX company has just such an eGPU solution in its portfolio with the G-Dock, which offers interesting features and could therefore appeal to some users.

Especially for laptops or mini PCs with a powerful CPU but without a dedicated GPU, an eGPU offers an enormous performance boost, which also saves costs for an entire PC setup. The G-Dock offers space for a fully-fledged, powerful graphics card and supports two connection types. Both USB4 and the modern OCuLink standard are supported as interfaces. However, the OCuLink standard with 64 GT/s would probably be the better choice here, as it offers a faster speed than the USB4 standard with 40 Gbps.

Another plus point that could possibly be convincing is an integrated 800-watt power supply that can even power high-end graphics cards that are power-hungry. Some may wonder why Thunderbolt 5 is not supported, for example. This question can be answered by the fact that there are currently too few devices such as laptops or mini PCs on the market that support this type. It will therefore be a while before Thunderbolt 5 becomes the standard and manufacturers produce more. The docking station can supply connected laptops or mini PCs with up to 100 watts of power. Another useful feature that should be of interest to many users.

The G-Dock measures 22.5cm x 6cm x 11cm and is offered at a price of 239.99 US dollars. It should be noted, of course, that a separate graphics card is required to use the whole thing, which increases the total price of the system accordingly.
