Is AMD getting the crown back? Radeon RX 6900 XT 16 GB review with benchmarks and a deeper technical analysis

Fan control and curves

Such a cooling system only works with a good airflow and that’s why I took a look at the fan curves. For this purpose, I set the (lower and usual) edge temperature (green) and the fan speeds (yellow) of the Radeon RX 6900 XT against each other. We can see that in my example, the controller makes a smooth jump and in return the temperatures remain more or less constant. This was solved more gently than with the RX 6800 XT. In most normal games you won’t get that high at all, so that in the end it will almost always end up at 1250 MHz, which you will hardly notice as annoying. Here the RX 6800 XT turned at a whopping 1500 rpm with almost identical TBP.

Noise emission “Volume”

If you now measure the whole thing in normal use in the ultra-HD gaming loop (around 300 watts), the 34.9 dB(A) of the Radeon RX 6900XT is a new milestone, especially if you remember the hairdryer of the Radeon VII or the RX 5700XT. This one finally plays in a completely different league and is even better than the RX 6800 XT, although with a hotter board as compensation. Only the bobbin peeping is clearly audible from time to time.

As an interim conclusion, we can say that AMD has once again done its homework well and has put a potent and quite quiet radiator on its feet – chapeau, because it wasn’t always like that!
