The cult first-person shooter of Monolith. One of the games of the year 2000 and a classic representative of the games with DirectX 7. This game runs smoothly on all versions of Windows and is therefore almost predestined for a test. However, we have dedusted and connected a CRT monitor for this game, as the game automatically limits the maximum frame rates to the monitor frequency using a limiter. In this way, we can ensure that we actually achieve the maximum achievable rates.
In order to get the highest possible load, we have overwritten the settings of the game and forced 8x AA and 16 x AF driver side by a separate profile. All internal settings of the game are only set to "high". Due to the low resolution, which can be adjusted without external interventions, the game does not look too fresh from today's point of view. The fun of the game, on the other hand, is still unbroken.
The result surprises analogously to Need For Speed High Stakes. Windows 98 is the winner again on DirectX 7 and this game. The last place in this test is Windows 7. We couldn't determine whether it was the driver or any test condition that we overlooked. A counter-test on a second system (Q6600, DFI Lanparty DK X48, 6800GT) produced a similar picture on Windows 7.
