G.SKILL is constantly expanding its portfolio of DDR5 offerings. While a 2x 32 GB SKU with 6000 CL30 was added just a few weeks ago, the smaller but even faster 2x 16 GB 6600 CL34 kit is officially announced today. This is yet another variant of the well-known Trident Z5 design, which will be available in black and silver, with and without RGB, as usual.
In the screenshot of the announcement, G.SKILL shows the new kit running on an Asus Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard and an Intel Core i7-12700K while it completes over 1000% in a RAM stress test flawlessly. Such high DDR5 clock rates have always been a controversial topic since the launch of the Intel Z690 motherboards with silicon lottery in the RAM kit, but also often in the motherboard and the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) of the CPU. So it is even more impressive that the kit runs with DDR5-6600 and timings 34-40-40-105 on a 4-DIMM motherboard. It can therefore be assumed that this board will also make it onto the QVL of the RAM kit. However, there is no official information on this yet.
Furthermore, some CPU-Z windows can be seen in the screenshot, where the used BIOS version and the DDR5 memory chips have been hidden. However, we can naturally assume SK Hynix 16 Gbit M-Die ICs, since currently only these can operate such high clock rates stably at all. Furthermore, a 10-layer design is likely to be used, as it is already the case with the existing 6400 CL32 SKU. Unfortunately, we have not been able to test any of G.SKILL’s DDR5 SKUs ourselves yet, but the product’s features look extremely promising. Retail availability of the new kit is scheduled to start globally in May 2022.
