The next generation of gaming: NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” series is in the starting blocks, reports Kopite7kimi on X, and brings with it significant performance improvements over the current Ada generation. Based on the leaked information, we are now taking a cautious look at the technical specifications of the upcoming GPUs, knowing that a lot could (and perhaps will) change. A little restraint is always the order of the day with such things, because according to Igor, not even a BoM for the new cards has landed at both AICs, let alone information on the reference bzdesign and thermal design guide. So here you really have to put the question marks first, because NVIDIA has already proven several times in the past that nothing is set in stone.

But what’s new? At the top is the NVIDIA GB202, the GPU for the most powerful GeForce RTX 5090 and higher models. With 192 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) and a memory bus interface of up to 512 bits, it promises an immense performance increase of 33% compared to the AD102 GPU of the RTX 40 series.
The NVIDIA GB203 GPU, which is expected to power the GeForce RTX 5080, has 84 SMs and a 256-bit memory bus interface. It offers 5% more cores than the AD103 GPU and is ideal for demanding gamers. The NVIDIA GB205 targets the GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti with its 50 SMs and a 192-bit memory bus interface. It is positioned in the high-end segment of the mainstream and offers outstanding performance for graphics-intensive applications.
The GPU with the identification number GB206 and with 36 SMs and a 128-bit memory bus interface is designed for the GeForce RTX 5060 (Ti) series. Despite the narrower memory bus width, it can deliver impressive performance in the mainstream segment thanks to intelligent memory compression and large L2 caches. Finally, the GB207 with 20 SMs and a 128-bit memory bus interface serves the entry-level market and will probably be found in the GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 5050. As a special feature, it supports both GDDR7 and GDDR6 memory.

Market launch and availability
While NVIDIA is evaluating various cooling solutions for the new series, initial information points to a dual-slot and dual-fan cooler for the flagship RTX 5090. Originally expected for the end of 2024, the market launch of the GeForce RTX 50 series could be delayed until early 2025. The laptop variants of the RTX 50 series with up to 16 GB GDDR7 memory are rumored to be released in early 2025 together with the new Arrow Lake HX and Fire Range HX designs. This is also supported by Igor’s information that no real working bases should arrive at the board partners before September. Then it will take at least 6 months, so let’s just do the math ourselves…
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” series promises a significant leap in graphics performance with its powerful GPUs and innovative features. With options for all gamer segments, from enthusiasts to beginners, the new series offers something for everyone. However, exact launch dates and prices are yet to be determined.
