Fan slots and WaKü potential
In order to achieve the maximum airflow, of course, you need a large number of fans, and there are indeed plenty of them that can be screwed into the Torrent.
Front: 2 x 180 mm (pre-installed) or 3 x 120/140 mm (via front fan brackets)
Tail: 1 x 120/140 mm
Base: 3 x 120/140 mm or 2 x 180 mm (3 x 140 mm pre-installed)
Lid: N/A
Total fan positions: 7 x 120/140 mm or 4 x 180 m
Fan included:
- 2 x Dynamic X2 GP-18 PWM, 3 x Dynamic X2 GP-14 PWM (standard versions)
- 2 x Prisma AL-18 PWM ARGB, 3 x Prisma AL-14 PWM ARGB (RGB version)
Filter:
- Front panel, bottom
Radiators:
Despite its fairly compact dimensions and focus on airflow, the Torrent can also accommodate a lush custom loop. Due to the cleverly chosen layout, even two relatively large radiators can be mounted at the same time. I’ll do a post test with 4x180mm Prisma fans next week, and as part of that test I’ll see how much room is left when mounting 360/420mm radiators in the end. For now, I can only serve with the following graphic:
Expansion tank:
There is also room for a large expansion tank, and all kinds of slotted holes allow for flexible installation without having to drill any holes yourself. However, when it comes to the size of the balance tank, you have to pay attention to the length of the GPU, as these two components might get in each other’s way here:
Fillports:
The lid is already provided ex works with various holes for mounting a fillport:
RGB
In terms of lighting, the Torrent is discreetly restrained. At least if you don’t buy the RGB version tested here, which is sold with the Prisma fans designed specifically for this case. The “Solid” version (without side window) has no illumination at all and the Tempered Glass versions only have the discreet RGB stripe on the power supply cover (see next picture).
The RGB version, on the other hand, leaves nothing to be desired with its five pre-installed Prima fans. If you buy the RGB version, you get RGB!
Fractal Design has also punched small recesses in the bottom, into which additional LED strips can be sunk, if one is in the mood for underbody lighting in Fast and Furious style.
Due to the lack of an ARGB compatible motherboard, I couldn’t create any fancy lighting scenes here, but had to fall back on the rather rudimentary controller of the Scythe Mugen 5 ARGB Plus. I attach more pictures of the final result on the last page of this article.
