Power consumption in the benchmark course as curves
So what do the graphics cards and the combination of GPU and CPU really take in terms of performance in each benchmark and resolution? The fastest card in combination with the CPU is of course also the most power-hungry in total. First, let’s look again at my graph of curves and the timeline:
If you now take out the CPU, the graphics cards can also be compared quite well alone and among each other on the common timeline:
Average power consumption as bar graph
Of course, we don’t see a true average in all those curves, but that’s what the good old bar graphs are for. I now determine exactly this summary from the non-interpolated raw data (which is also supplied by the interpreter) and can even display and compare the power consumption of the GPU with and without CPU as an average for the respective game. The first bar graph represents the geometric mean of the total power consumption of GPU + CPU (magenta) and GPU-Only (black).
The CPU load is also very FPS dependent if the graphics card is not limiting or only limiting a little. You can see very well from the following graph that the fastest card with DLSS requires about 24 watts more power consumption of the CPU than the slowest card on the same system!
And for those of you who are very fond of details, here’s the crucial question of the day: how efficient is a map actually? Exactly for this purpose, there is a calculation of the power consumption in watts averaged over the runtime for every single game, which you have to spend for a rendered frame on average. It doesn’t get any more beautiful than this, does it?
