Familiar design, even faster ICs – Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5-6200 CL36 2x 16 GB kit review with teardown and OC

RGB lighting

Fans of colorful lighting will also find a familiar and proven formula in the DDR5 variant of the Dominator Platinum RGB. The lighting element under the frame distributes the light evenly so that no individual light spots are visible, and the indicated fins also give the play of light even more three-dimensionality. And even if you only look at the modules from above with their 5 illuminated, rounded squares on both sides of the also illuminated “Dominator” lettering, they are a real optical highlight that also integrates well with the pixel design of the IO cover of current Asus Z690 boards.

Summary and conclusion

The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB modules in the DDR5-6200 version are without a doubt a real high-end SKU. With such a high clock rate and comparatively tight timings, you already get a large part of the available performance from your Intel Alder Lake CPU with the XMP profile, even on most 4-DIMM motherboards if the QVL allows it.

Hobby tuners and enthusiasts can then try their hand at the various DDR5 settings and get even more performance out of the potent Hynix M-Die ICs relatively easily. 26% more performance in applications like Geekbench 3 compared to the already nimble XMP profile is just one example of the modules’ additional retrievable potential.

The design of the heatsinks is both visually appealing and functionally effective. With their black anodized aluminum construction, the modules initially integrate inconspicuously but stylishly into almost any system. And even when switched on, including lighting, the Dominator Platinum RGB modules are a real feast for the eyes, based on a proven formula. The cooling of the modules works just as well, even at almost 1.5 V with the manual overclocking without active cooling.

Approximately 475 Euros currently a real statement terms of price, of course, but at least this is effectively the MSRP without scalper surcharges like we had to accept at the end of last year in some cases. The availability in various online stores is correspondingly good, so that the high-end SKU in Corsair’s DDR5 range is also reliably available in Germany and Europe. Of course, the kit is still not cheap, but the price-performance ratio is still acceptable. After all, you get almost the absolute maximum of possible DDR5 performance for it.

The RAM kit was kindly provided to us by Corsair without any obligation to publish. In addition, there was no influence on the tests and their results.
