Time and time again you read in forums that wireless mice would be a bad choice for gamers. There are reports of delays, dropouts, too much weight and constantly empty batteries. But is that still true in 2021? We compare the M65 RGB Ultra with and without cable. Granted, the first wireless mice pretty much fulfilled each of the above preconceptions with flying colors. On my first contact with a wireless mouse, which was probably part of a low-priced keyboard and mouse set, I did not have a good experience. There were constant disconnects, the battery was almost always empty and exactly when the crosshairs were on the head of the opponent, the radioed mouse click had to arrive delayed at the receiver.
Such frustrating experiences were unfortunately commonplace, especially with the cheap models, and for years were the reason why wireless gaming mice didn’t have the best reputation. And as if development had stood still, some prejudices have persisted extremely stubbornly in the minds of consumers for years. The fact that Corsair now offers the M65 RGB Ultra with and without cables is the perfect template for us to put the aforementioned drawbacks to the test. Perhaps we can put this prejudice to rest once and for all.
Corsair addresses the M65 RGB Ultra (wireless) to FPS and MOBA players. With features like the aluminum frame, a 26,000 DPI sensor, the latest wireless technologies and high-quality workmanship, you’ve got some good points to show for it indeed. For this comparison test, I put both mice to the test in a wide variety of applications and actually ended up with the result I expected. In order not to anticipate too much, I’ll get into the test with the unboxing, as usual.
Unboxing and hands-on
Concerning the unboxing-experience the two opponents don’t take each other much.
Besides the mice, there are a few balance weights and the usual documents and instructions in the box. As a replacement for the fixed cable of the M65 RGB Ultra, the wireless version comes with a charging cable and a small USB transmitter.
Apart from the mouse wheel, which is not illuminated on the Wireless, the two mice do not differ externally.
The cable of the M65 RGB Ultra is one of the highest quality I’ve had in my hands. Although it is so thick, the paracord sheathing is very soft and flexible.

Tuning weights can be screwed into the three round holes to change the balance of the mouse. As an example I have screwed in one of them. I’ll get into that in more detail later.
