iCUE Software
I have already discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the different software solutions several times. One disadvantage of the iCUE software, which spans all devices, is its sheer size. The download is now 1.1 GB in size, and my Corsair folder is an insane 2.47 GB in total. The iCUE process alone stores 120 MB in memory and runs a double-digit number of Corsair and iCUE services – that’s quite a number.
Also with this version of the iCUE software I had again the annoying error that you have to click on “retry” several times during the installation routine. Whether this is only due to my PC, I could not verify so far, but the program itself runs later apparently without problems.
As far as the operation is concerned, everything has remained the same. On the start page of the software, you can find the profile selection, the read sensor values and the overview of the connected Corsair devices.
If we select the keyboard, we are automatically in the lighting menu. Here again, different layers can be created, which means that there are virtually no limits to your own imagination. I find it very nice that you can also assign separate effects to different areas, not all RGB controllers are that flexible.
In the key assignment we can freely assign all keys. In addition to the usual functions, predefined actions such as “Text” and, of course, macros are also available. New in the current software is the so-called Voicemod, with which you can also switch voice distortion etc.. However, it would be beyond the scope of this article to present all of this.
In the “Options” menu item we can select the properties of the special keys. For example, when the WIN-LOCK key is activated, you can select whether other key combinations such as Alt+F4 should perhaps be deactivated in addition to the name-giving lock of the Windows key, and in which color the keys should light up (indicator) when the functions are de-/activated.
Finally, things like the brightness of the backlight and wireless settings can be found in the device settings item.
