Volume flow vs. sound pressure level
You get a very appealing performance in the case and also on the radiator together with a quite sensational sufficient speed band in the lower range. The Corsair iCUE ML120 RGB ELITE is consistently quieter than the reference up to about 65 cfm and even significantly quieter below 45 cfm, even managing a bit more throughput at the top end of speed with a lower sound level. This is really great, especially since the fan was free of humming and audible vibrations except for the slight chirping. You can leave it like that, because it actually doesn’t get much better than that.
Those who install the Corsair iCUE ML120 RGB ELITE should, despite everything, pay attention to the structure-borne noise and vibrations, which can quickly find a resonator and then put the fan acoustically on the sidelines, even if the fan is decoupled quite well by the huge rubber corners. After all, things like this are precisely the reason why we work with a large-volume and very rigid chamber rather than a thin and long wind tunnel. This also applies to the end user, who may please pay attention to a good decoupling here.
Volume flow and speeds
We again recognize the low speed range at the lower end (at least PWM controlled), where you always need lower speeds than the reference for the same throughput! Otherwise, the curve is similarly balanced to that of the reference fan. The almost linear ascent is very good and also the curve at the top does not simply flatten out. Of course, a big thumbs up for this as well. The fact that the upper limit is limited to 2000 rpm does not detract from the whole thing, since most users will prefer 1500 rpm and less anyway. And you also beat the reference in total, which can only offer the same throughput with 500 rpm more.
So you can see that the fan delivers what we promised and even a bit more than what the manufacturer promises in the data sheet (throughput, minimum speed in PWM mode). However, it is also a fact that the Corsair iCUE ML120 RGB ELITE delivers more than decent overall and even better compared to the reference. The performance on the radiators, especially at lower speeds, is also completely convincing, even if the fan then naturally drops a bit. Compared to other fans with nicely colored values in the spec sheet, the Corsair iCUE ML120 RGB ELITE really delivers decently That’s why I’d recommend buying it, and it’s well deserved, even though the prices are quite steep.
Conclusion
Those who cannot or do not want to do without RGB and also have a fatter wallet will definitely be happy with the Corsair iCUE ML120 RGB ELITE. Whether as a case fan, or in use on thick radiators – as long as you do not prefer the ultimate tornado along with matching accompanying noise, the Corsair iCUE ML120 RGB ELITE is a really good, because also quiet choice. In the introduction on the first page, I wrote something about the yardstick in the form of the purchase price. The fan gallantly jumped over them, even if the monetary landing then turned out to be quite hard for some. But if graphics cards are now allowed to cost the equivalent of a kidney, the fan should at least be granted the much cheaper spleen. Then the organic connection between the money-counting finger and the soul (brain) will also work. As long as you can handle the proprietary RGB connector.
