Cooler Master SK650 in review: Can the premium keyboard convince?

If you are interested in mechanical keyboards in this day and age, you will have heard of Cherry. Cooler Master launches a mechanical low profile keyboard that is less voluminous than other keyboards with normal mechanical keys thanks to the new Cherry MX low profile switches.

The SK650 in practice

The writing feeling is good and the low pressure depth does not require any acclimatization time, which speaks for the good Cherry keys. The generated sound profile of the keys is relatively quiet and dull, which I find very pleasant. In general, the sound fits the exterior image of the keyboard.

The density of the keys and the resulting incorrect input had an unusual effect on me, because if the key is not hit exactly enough, you quickly land on the neighbor button. With a classic design of the buttons there is a better sense of delimitation of the individual keys and incorrect input are felt less often. Keys that are hit too close to the edge also increase the error rate in texts, as the adjacent keys are often pressed.

Without fold-out feet under the SK650, it can only be used flat on the table and not angled. However, the structure of the buttons is slightly bevelled, which makes the ergonomics positively applied. The entire structure of the keyboard is not really "Low Profile". The designation therefore applies exclusively to the installed switches as well as their lower height and the trigger path.

Thanks to the extensive adjustment possibilities of the RGB LEDs and their effects, it is conceivable to use not only in the gaming area but also on the work with a more discreet appearance. There is a suitable mode for every taste.

As a gaming keyboard, the SK650 is highly recommended and can be a good choice, especially because of the macros. For example, actions can be combined and executed. If you then define the profiles by application, you can also use different scenarios in a targeted manner.

Conclusion

The use of the new low-profile buttons in the SK650 is to be described as successful and is really fun thanks to the excellent features. Especially the high-quality concept of the design and sound of the key strokes convinces.

Unusually, however, is the tight arrangement on this large full-size keyboard and the change from a classic design is definitely a change of habit, as other keys can be hit again and again unintentionally. After a change of habit, however, the keyboard is a lot of fun and enhances the workplace.

Cooler Master SK650, LEDs RGB, MX LOW PROFILE RGB RED, USB, DE (SK-650-GKLR1-DE)

The idea of the interchangeable USB cable is exemplary, but unfortunately not every cable is compatible. The implementation of the RGB capabilities is generously implemented and thanks to the function keys on the SK650 can also be adjusted without software. Here you will find a suitable setting for every taste.
