The presentation of the new motherboards from Asus and Gigabyte is still a long way off, at least as far as the B850 and B840 models are concerned, but the well-known leaker momomo_US has already published the first images on his X account (formerly Twitter). These show motherboards that are supposed to be compatible with the upcoming Ryzen 9000 processors.
Asus is apparently planning to launch four different models: the Prime B840M-A-CSM, the TUF Gaming B850M-Plus, B580 Plus WiFi and then Asus’ highest-end model, the RG B580-Gaming WiFi. This selection offers users various options that are tailored to different needs and should therefore cover every area. The entry-level model is the Prime B840M-A-CSM, the weakest of the new Asus models. It only supports PCIe 4.0 and is based on Gen 3 speeds. The board offers three PCI-E x16 slots, four SATA ports and two M.2 slots.
The TUF series belongs to Asus’ mid-range. The TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi supports PCIe slots of generations 5 and 4 and is equipped with USB 3.2 ports that offer a transfer rate of 20 Gbps. Compared to the previously released X870/X870E mainboards, Asus has dispensed with USB 4 here and instead relies on USB 3.2. Connectors such as DisplayPort, HDMI and several audio ports are also available. There are also 2 SATA ports on board. The B850M-Plus is the more compact version in Micro-ATX format and will presumably offer similar specifications, but with fewer ports. The ROG model also supports PCIe speeds of the fourth and fifth generation, has two PCI-E x16 slots, four M.2 slots and comes in a white design.
For the Gigabyte and AORUS mainboards, information about their upcoming mainboards is more limited. Five leaked models are known: the Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite WiFi 7 in white and black, the Gigabyte B850I AORUS PRO, the Gigabyte B850 EAGLE WiFi6E and the Gigabyte B850 GAMING WiFi6. It is to be expected that the configurations will largely correspond to those of the Asus mainboards. More details remain to be seen and are expected to be announced at the upcoming CES 2025.
