CES 2025: AMD presented the mobile HX3D processors and the Z2 series for handhelds

Ryzen HX3D series: top performance for mobile devices

The AMD Ryzen HX3D series represents the high-end option in mobile processors and has been specially developed for powerful laptops and compact workstations. With a combination of up to 16 cores, 32 threads and the innovative 3D V-Cache technology, the HX3D series sets new standards in mobile computing performance. The 3D V-Cache ensures a significant expansion of the available L3 cache, which is particularly advantageous in latency-sensitive applications such as gaming and content creation. These processors achieve clock speeds of up to 5.4 GHz, which in combination with the high cache leads to outstanding performance in single and multi-threaded applications.

Another focus is on energy efficiency. The HX3D processors offer a scalable Thermal Design Power (TDP) between 45 and 120 watts and dynamically adapt to workloads to ensure an optimal balance between performance and battery life. This makes them ideal for devices that need to be both mobile and powerful. With support for DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 technology, these processors are future-proof and offer maximum bandwidth for GPUs and storage devices. Benchmarks show that the HX3D series is particularly impressive in gaming scenarios, achieving higher frame rates and improved stability even in demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Starfield. In addition, these processors offer outstanding performance in creative workflows such as 3D rendering or video editing.

Ryzen Z2 series: efficiency and performance for handheld devices

The Ryzen Z2 series was specially developed for use in handheld PCs and portable gaming devices and combines a compact design with impressive computing power. With up to 8 cores and 16 threads, the Z2 series offers exceptional multitasking capabilities, further enhanced by clock speeds of up to 5.1 GHz. The Z2 Series processors are designed for a scalable cTDP (configurable Thermal Design Power) between 15 and 35 watts, enabling long battery life and low heat generation – both critical requirements for portable devices.

A highlight of the Z2 series is the integration of powerful integrated graphics processors (iGPUs) based on the RDNA-3 architecture, offering up to 16 graphics cores. This enables the Z2 processors to run modern games at high settings and stable frame rates without the need for a dedicated GPU. The processors also benefit from features such as AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), which improves visual quality with limited hardware performance. Devices such as the Lenovo Legion Go, the ASUS ROG Ally and the Valve SteamDeck already rely on the Z2 series and utilize its advantages in terms of mobility, performance and efficiency. The Z2 series meets the growing demands of the handheld gaming market and positions itself as an ideal solution for portable devices that appeal to both gamers and creative users.

The information was provided by AMD in advance under NDA. The only condition was compliance with the embargo period.
