The leaker kopite7kimi has once again spoken out on X (the artist name of Twitter) and announced that we will soon be making the acquaintance of the “GeForce of Blackwell”. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? Well, maybe not. All the questions to him about what exactly is meant by this have so far been met with silence – the usual mysterious silence-in-the-woods tactic. It is more than doubtful that there really is anything official behind this. On the contrary.
And what does “get to know” even mean in this case? Behind this fancy name is simply the upcoming GeForce RTX 5000 series, which is based on the Blackwell architecture. An announcement that should electrify everyone, but which nobody really understands. In any case, the community is skeptical, especially since it was said that we would have to wait until 2025 to even get a look at these cards. But it’s nice fodder for all the news machines. Goal achieved!
Even a planned keynote from CEO Jensen Huang at CES in early January had recently been touted as the earliest possible “reveal date”. Sure, Huang will certainly deliver a bit of marketing chatter, but putting the RTX 50 series directly under the Christmas tree? Probably not. The community (and not just the community) is unanimous: January 2025 is more likely and only very few believe in a launch this year. But there are also those who think Santa Claus is real.
And before you pop the corks now: In the end, the whole “leak” is probably nothing more than good old clickbait and the build-up of a suspense curve. Why? The real background (which could have been “leaked”) is simply this: This week the board partners (AIC) finally got their first real engineering samples for evaluation, so they have something to solder and test. So that just means that more information might leak out in the next few days – but we’re still miles away from a big reveal. For the time being, we’ll be soldering what the lead-free solder has to offer. So stay skeptical and keep expectations in check – or just keep chilling for the next “groundbreaking” prediction!
The fact that leaks are coming now that the right chips can finally be soldered onto the various circuit boards (is that also a leak between the lines?) and entire graphics cards can be assembled for the first time is actually predictable and only a matter of days or hours. It is therefore clear that the leaker obviously has such a source. But it is nothing more than an announcement of the actual leak, which he himself still has to wait for. And it can be assumed that in the meantime he is probably laughing with amusement at everyone who has already jumped over this thin stick, drooling. I would even go along with that.
