Let the water games begin – Installation of the Alphacool water cooling system
Most readers probably know the installation of an AiO from the FF. It’s not really any more complex than installing an air cooler either. But since there was also a small custom loop on the program, it ended up being a bit more time-consuming for me than expected. But let’s take a look at what all there was to build here.
First I installed the Alphacool Eisbaer Aurora 360 (article about the Eisbaer can be found here: click) and did not use the included 120 mm fans, but the Alphacool Rise Aurora FAN 120 mm. Not only do they look better, but they perform very well! As our colleague Pascal has already presented and certified in the article (click here).
So I screwed the fan onto the 360 x 30 mm radiator and laid all the cables nicely, so that nothing dangles in the area. As you can see on the next picture, my testbench is designed for a maximum of one radiator. But there was still a lot of water cooling in the box that needed to be installed.
Up to here everything went according to plan and the Alphacool Eisbaer 360 purrs along almost inaudibly. Since I had to think about how to install the 360 x 45 mm radiator with push-pull, I first disassembled the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 FE and installed the Alphacool Eisblock GPX Aurora. This was an easy task thanks to instructions on how to disassemble the RTX 3080 FE and Alphacool’s good description of where to put which thermal pad, for example. If you need some guidance here, you can use the following videos.
As you can see, there’s nothing to be afraid of! It’s like cutting bread and anyone should be able to do it. This is what it looks like when it’s done!
After I thought of a solution how to get the Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 and the remaining 6 fans to the testbench, I already equipped the radiator with fans on one side.
Quite a hunk! I hid all the cable clutter underneath the fans so you don’t see much of it. Now everything was prepared and I measured, drilled and deburred three 3 mm thick aluminium plates. These sit at the back of the Eisbaer AiO’s radiator mount. How it looks in the end now, you can see on the next page!
