Comparison to the desktop computer
I then reinstalled the graphics card in my partner’s system, from which I originally stole it for my tests. This is equipped with an i9-11900K and 32GB DDR4. For the sake of interest, here are the values for the power consumption, but I would like to point out that the desktop PC is of course at a slightly greater disadvantage in terms of consumption than it already is due to the AIO water cooling, built-in HDDs and plenty of fans including RGB.
System |
Idle |
Load |
GTi13U Dock |
44 watts |
265 watts |
Desktop PC |
134 watts |
364 watts |
The load was generated by MSI Kombustor in the stress test at 1080p and x16 tessellation and the power consumption was recorded after exactly 300 seconds.
3DMark PCI Express Feature Test – Version 1.0
UL PCMark 10 – Normal – Version 1.0
3DMark CPU Profile – Normal – Version 1.0
3DMark Time Spy – Normal – Version 1.2
3DMark Night Raid – Normal – Version 1.1
Unigine Superposition – 1080p Medium – DirectX
I was surprised by the results myself, despite the much lower PCIe bandwidth, the results are closer together than I expected. Who would have thought that a CPU from the notebook segment that is only two generations newer could even outperform the desktop top model of the penultimate generation in some cases?
