Yeah, we did it again, and better this time. Especially since our forum member Gurdi probably won one of the main prizes in the silicone lottery, as his RX 6800 in reference design shows very impressively what can be done if you had a lucky hand with the order button. I can spoil it in advance, because his card reached an average stable and above all durable 2530 to 2550 MHz even under maximum full load in synthetic benchmarks AND games!
This was possible by using the BIOS of the normal XT version including MorePowerTool (MPT). Gurdi then came quite close to the result of my RX 6800 XT @ Stock with the simple RX 6800, which was also only just over 17000 points in 3DMark Time Spy! Not bad and in the end it’s all a question of clock rate. My own RX 6800 couldn’t quite keep up with this despite a power investment of almost 300 watts, but it was still at the 2.5 GHz mark.
The RX 6800 XT only manages 517 graphic points more without any changes, a ridiculous 3 percent more. This is then (almost) already a perceived equality! Of course you can overclock such a Radeon RX 6800 XT and so I add my Radeon RX 6800 from the launch test, which I blessed with the BIOS of a board partner card including 289 watts TGP via the MPT. Both cards show an enormous gain and today I have some first results for you. But that comes in the end. Let’s first take a look at the Radeon RX 6800 without XT, with which Gurdi was able to achieve nice clock rates.

Instead of boring tables, I’ve put Gurdi’s runs into galleries for you, because we can compare the factory settings and the manual OC with and without MPT and XT-BIOS. Let’s start with the factory settings and a fresh driver without any changes. Let’s remember the 14796 points from the Graphic Score. But of course there are other benchmarks as well!
Let us now come to the manual OC without MPT. More than raising the power limit to 15% and increasing the RAM clock and GPU clock is all you have. The 16364 points were then also the maximum, which was stable on the Time Spy. But still, that is an increase of almost 10.6 percent.
Now the MPT and the XT-BIOS will be used for the last centimetres and for the (temporary) first place in the ranking! With 16939 points, however, this is also the end of the story. More simply does not work with air and AMDs restrictions, as long as you don’t physically put your hand on it or shock freeze the good part. 14.7 Percent at the end of the day are a real gift, which means another 4 percent more. Not bad either!
