AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 “Storm Peak” – first traces also spotted in CPU-Z

The latest version 2.06 of the CPU-Z monitor and information software has recently been updated to support the latest hardware products from Intel, AMD and NVIDIA. In the case of Intel, this includes support for several new Alder Lake-N SKUs as well as the Xeon Sapphire Rapids series for data center CPUs. The software also adds support for the NVIDIA RTX 4070 and 4060 Ti graphics cards.

The developers at CPU-Z have integrated a lot of new hardware from AMD into their program. This includes the Dragon Range (also known as Raphael for laptops) Ryzen 7000HX series, which is now supported by the software. Also new is the just released Radeon RX 7600 GPU. Also of particular note is the first update for the Threadripper 7000, codenamed “Storm Peak”. The support for the upcoming HEDT series is not yet fully implemented in the software. Presumably, the preliminary support only means that the architecture can be detected, but no specific SKUs can be identified yet. AMD has not yet confirmed when exactly these CPUs will hit the market, nor which specific SKUs they will include.

CPU-Z 2.06:

  • Intel N97, N95 and N50 (ADL-N, 6W to 15W).
  • AMD Dragon Range Ryzen 9 7945HX (16c/55-75W), 7845HX (12c/45-75W), Ryzen 7 7745HX (8c/45-75W), 7645HX (6c/45-75W).
  • Zhaoxin C-1080 IGP (KX-6000G).
  • Zhaoxin KH-40000 YongFeng (12/16/32c).
  • NVIDIA RTX 4070 (AD104-250).
  • NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti (AD106-350).
  • AMD Radeon RX 7600 (Navi 33 XL).
  • Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids platform.
  • Preliminary support for AMD Storm Peak platform.
  • Zhaoxin KX-6000G/4 CPU.

According to ASUS, there is a possibility that AMD will launch its Threadripper 7000 series in the second half of 2023. However, there is no direct official confirmation from AMD itself so far. The new series would require a new TR5 socket and DDR5 memory. The underlying architecture has been updated to Zen4. The product, codenamed “Storm Peak”, could be available in both WS (workstation, also known as Threadripper PRO) and HEDT (consumer high-end desktop) designs. The HEDT design could support up to quad-channel DDR5 memory and have 64 Gen5 PCIe lanes, while the PRO model would double those specs.
