It was to be expected that AMD would not leave the mid-range to NVIDIA without a fight. There are now increasing indications that the RX 9060 series will be released in the second quarter of 2025 – probably with the intention of taking on the GeForce RTX 5060 models directly.

RDNA 4 with Navi 44: A slimmed-down solution for the mass market?
Following the launch of the RX 9070 series, which was quite attractively priced, AMD is now targeting users who don’t necessarily want to spend 600 US dollars on a new GPU with the RX 9060. According to current information, the RX 9060 will be based on the Navi 44 chip – probably a heavily trimmed version of the RDNA-4 architecture, which should be competitive in the mid-range. However, with an expected mydrivers configuration of 8 GB, AMD is unlikely to leave much room for memory-intensive applications. As NVIDIA is also not known for lavish memory equipment in this price range, the duel between the RX 9060 and RTX 5060 could focus on efficiency, ray tracing performance and price-performance ratio.
Pricing: Where will AMD start?
Rumors suggest that AMD could target a price range between 400 and 500 US dollars with the RX 9060. This would place the new GPU directly in the typical “sweet spot” segment for mid-range gamers, in which NVIDIA also positions itself with its RTX 60 cards. The crucial question remains how the performance of the RX 9060 will fare in current games and whether the chosen specifications will be enough to convince buyers to switch to AMD. As the market in this price range is traditionally price-sensitive, AMD’s strategy could be to put pressure on NVIDIA with slightly slimmed-down hardware but aggressive pricing.

Launch timing: Waiting for NVIDIA?
If AMD sticks to its current strategy, a market launch in April 2025 would be conceivable – possibly shortly after the new RTX 5060 models from NVIDIA. This would allow Team Red to wait and see whether NVIDIA comes up with unexpected specifications or a particularly aggressive pricing policy before reacting accordingly. For consumers, this probably means that a direct comparison will only be possible once both manufacturers have fully laid their cards on the table. Until then, it remains speculation as to how AMD’s Navi-44 chip will fare against NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture.
