There are always surprises – including when a Mexican retailer site suddenly lists an AMD Radeon RX 9050. Of course, nothing is official yet, but when a retailer lists something like this in its filter options, you could almost think that AMD is actually planning a 50-class GPU again after a long absence. After the RX 5000 and RX 6000 lineup, things were noticeably quiet in this segment, and the RX 7000 series also made itself comfortable without a true entry-level card. But now there seems to be some movement.
The return of the budget GPUs?
Up to now, AMD has mainly focused on the mid-range – and not without reason, as GPUs below 200 dollars are not exactly the most lucrative business. Although there have been a few attempts to serve the low-cost market with the RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT, the results have been rather mixed. Who doesn’t remember the 64-bit memory connection of the RX 6500 XT? A rogue who suspects intent. Now, with the RX 9050, a new entry-level candidate is emerging. The GPU was spotted on the website of the Mexican retailer DDTECH –and not only the GPU, but also the RX 9060. While there were already some rumors about the RX 9060, the RX 9050 appears here for the first time. Whether this is a mistake or a genuine pre-listing remains to be seen.

What could the RX 9050 offer?
Of course, there are no official specifications, but we can make a few guesses. If AMD really wants to launch a serious competitor in the lower price range, then the card should have at least 8 GB of VRAM – anything less would be hard to justify in 2025. The power consumption should remain below 150 watts, which would speak in favor of a compact design. The memory interface also remains an exciting question: hopefully AMD will refrain from making questionable design decisions this time.
Why now?
If you look at the competition, it quickly becomes clear why AMD may be following suit here. NVIDIA has been conspicuously reticent with its 50 series cards of late. The RTX 4050? Never appeared. Whether an RTX 5050 is coming is also questionable. This gives AMD a chance to serve the affordable market on its own – if it does it right. The RX 9060 is expected to appear in the second quarter and compete against the RTX 5060. Should the RX 9050 actually exist, it could be a welcome alternative for all those who are not in the mood for overpriced mid-range GPUs.
AMD about to make a comeback in the entry-level class?
It remains to be seen whether the Radeon RX 9050 is really coming. If so, it could be a sign that AMD has not completely given up on the budget market after all. But history teaches us that a low-cost GPU is only really attractive if it doesn’t fail due to questionable design decisions. We can only hope that AMD has learned from the past – and that the RX 9050 will not simply be an RX 6500 XT with a new name.
