Cooling GPUs Reviews Watercooling

Alphacool Eiswolf GPX-Pro AiO: Compact Water Cooling for GTX 1080/1070

Since we want to test as soon as possible how such a solution behaves compared to closed compact water cooling, we simply reconstructed and assembled the Alphacool Eiswolf GPX-Pro 120 AiO ourselves, because the used... Noise emission ("volume")

In order to be able to measure this construction neatly and objectively, a calibrated, broadband neutral measuring microphone with low-cut (via a calibration file) as well as a useful analysis of the resulting measuring room is also required. Radio spectrum. The latter helps to visually represent the subjective impression very well.

We place the microphone at a distance of 30 cm from the pump and place the radiator ao so that the fans have a distance of 50 cm to the microphone capsule. Since this works omnidirectionally, the angles are absolutely no problem.

The spectrum clearly shows us that the pump works above 2000 rpm, but does not whistle (like some AVC pumps) or cause deeper bearing noise ("snoring"). The peak in the upper bass area results from the two 12 cm fans, which together with the radiator form a kind of resonance community.

Unfortunately, Alphacool does not offer any decoupling rubbers for the screws compared to the original noise blocker fans, which would provide a significant remedy here. Since the then measured almost 34 dB(A) would not be what the customer receives, we use the determined 34.7 dB(A) of our original test setup as the final value. But even that is still really acceptable.

Conclusion

Actually, a conversion could hardly be easier if one orients oneis a little on hints and manual. Alphacool currently offers the ready-to-use solution with pre-assembled 120-radiator for just under 150 euros, which sounds a lot at first, but it is actually not at all compared to real, self-assembled open-loop water cooling from the single-part shelf.

However, the charm of such a solution lies above all in its optional extensibility – and there must be at least a 240 radiator if you want to (sometimes) also cool the CPU. Because up to 80 watts more or less it doesn't matter with the 240 radiator. If you want to be quite sure, take a 360 or even 480 from the shelf anyway, whereby you should get every CPU up to the overclocked Core i7-6950X cooled.

If we now add together our well-expanded project, since there is currently no ready-made solution with 240 radiator as a complete package, then the almost 120 Euros for the pre-filled ice grinder including the pump and the hoses would still be approx. 63 Euro for the matching, also pre-filled radiator with hoses on top of it, which then in total without fan already at approx. EUR 183.

With this you almost end up in the regions of a "normal" water cooling – unfortunately. However, for newcomers, the foolproof handling lands on the credit side, which is not so easy to quantify in euros. And then, of course, there is the built-in "pump", which does everything right, but is not loud.

You don't have to write anything that fits the cooling capacity. Even if a "real" full cover block cools the voltage converters a little better: In the end, it's all about simplicity, replica safety and even sustainability, because you only have to change part of the cooler if you want to upgrade the map once. Then this is also put into perspective with the somewhat high entry price, which will certainly make many swallow.
