Intel Core i9-10900K in the versatility test. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the last 14-nm bolide?

Summary

Actually you would have to call Intel’s 10th generation, at least for the i9-10900K, more like the 9.5th generation, because apart from smaller evolutions in the boost, the voltage and the substructure not much has changed. However, more clock speed and two cores more are bitterly punished in full use, even in the power consumption. This cannot and must not be ignored when it comes to an objective and fair judgement.

Yes, this CPU can be bought. At least as a gamer, if the money is loose and the socket on the wall is screwed tight enough in return. Because the biggest shortcoming of the CPU is its outdated manufacturing process. Core architecture or not, the rather coarse-looking 14-nm leave their mark, both energetically and thermally. This is a pity, because I would have liked to see exactly this CPU with all its improvements in 10 nm. But since Intel didn’t make it, the only thing left is to wait…

I almost liked the rather simple motherboard better and with the Unify series, no matter if Z490 or X570, MSI finally has a non-flashing workhorse in the race, to which one could connect a lot of illumination, but doesn’t have to. If you had the right RAM in your offer, you would surely make a not very small target group happy. But at least the board is already a step in the right direction.

Conclusion

The smaller models look much more appetizing and interesting, at least from here and without a real test. How delicious they really are, one would have to find out, of course. In comparison, the Core i9-10900K is more of a lighthouse model, but I’m very sure that it will have to take some criticism for the disadvantages it has found out.

And there Zen3 is still standing there as a dark red ghost in the room and is already scratching his hooves. As I already wrote: you can (still) buy it. But you don’t have to.
