Introducing myself here, Innovation Cooling of IC Graphite so hello then.

Great article, good test results but would like to clarify our target marketing on this product.

The retail thermal paste market can be broken out into two main segments.

1. 20% the power users engineers, overclockers, gamers etc. who need to be on the bleeding edge of performance

2. 80% The average user who surfs the Internet, watches a video and who generally have low load work requirements.

The 80% Market exists basically because their previously installed thermal paste failed so the experienced to inexperienced user resorts to replacing their interface material. Happens more often than you would imagine but that is what makes the market and our focus.

While the overclocker enjoys this as part of their hobby the average user generally does not want to be burdened with the process of replacement they have better things to do.

What’s your time worth? I value my spare time like I would a salary, say 20- $50 an hour? My free time even more. The average person relies on their Internet/CPU for many things and the frustration of a game or video freezing due to thermal issues is an intrusion on their lifestyle and wasted time

PC centric people have no problem with this but our target market is the 80% and our offer is insurance they will have trouble free use on this issue.

Paste usually fails early due to poor contact and pressure i.e. low tolerance on mating parts causing uneven thermal distribution which over stresses the compound so a paste replacement on these systems will likely have to be done again not so much a compound problem but mechanical. This is as opposed high quality sinks with high tolerance you will enjoy a longer paste life, the kind that a 20%power user would use.

In addition I would note that while testing at high power levels is great for providing resolution to the delta temps between products @ 160W, you can knock 30% off that when you are at stock average user loads MAX load.

Three degree C becomes two, the casual user under normal use probably half again to 1 C difference. Extreme performance paste or other is not really relevant at this point.

This would be the average user experience comparison which is more relevant to our target market.

I would note that in regards to cost, in comparison we are continually offered from Chinese suppliers the same thermal compounds you see in the big 85 product round ups almost all come from 3 or 4 suppliers.

They send us a sample and we note that its same as XYZ thermal Paste on the market and they respond with "we can change color, make it thinner, thicker whatever you want, just put your own label/brand on it" . The Cost here is only $0.20 per gram in bulk but people are usually not familiar with supply chain costs. Blister packaging, local and import taxes overhead, processing, shipping etc. probably costs $4 USD to deliver an empty blister pack to Germany and then add in Amazon fees that run about 40% retail margin is alot less than one would think. Retail purchases are and have always one of convenience.

Nothing more to say just wanted to some context here, in English because people were insulted with my google translations in the past although I will include one for reference convenience.

Was ist deine Zeit wert?

You are Correct

What happens when you use thermal paste with the pad is the pad ends up with the same performance as the paste.

The choke point becomes the paste.

I tested that with IC Diamond same performance as IC Diamond

Tested with Liquid metal and result what the same as Liquid metal

Defeats the purpose might well be one or the other.

Pads are coming into their own time, they are getting better and cheaper in the development process. A year or two the description will be to Replacement rather than Alternative - some really good materials work going on these days

we will see and thanks for coming back to us on this testing result - spoken as an active community contributor here on toms and as i would guess, many of our "silent readers" will see your kind words.

back on Topic - easy to handle material is a good idea, and i'm with you that many ppl do not care about OC and stuff like that - but i see a different share of user profiles ->
<5 % OC and Enthusiasts that seriously care about components and all things around it - and are the poor guys that have to fix anything that comes up from friends and family
15 % power user with absolutely no clue about hardware besides pricelevel
~ 80 ppl that have not even any clue about computer
but this is overall and differs a lot locally... nevermind...

i'm with you about that point your product is targeting those 80 % to help them - BUT - this is the 80 % that do not even manage to get a smartphone cover mounted to their device without injuring themselfs... whats your chance they are able to remove, clean and reinstall a CPU cooler without accident?
^^of course this desciption i a bit too much - but i'm sure you get me - your marketing and your YT guides "how to" should be very good ;)

Not really difficult many first timers in the group.

Easier than some paste method recommendations - I was going to do a video but figured it was not worth it -place pad - screw down cooler -10 seconds

Tight setups might be awkward but some are creative one of my LN2 beta testers would lick the pad like a stamp and slap it on using the surface tension of the saliva to hold in place - It is 100% graphite mineral and non toxic not recommended by us but people are interesting in how they approach things.

Stuff is hydrophobic repels water and alcohol just to note

Another piece of trivia one of the HWBOT guys sorts CPUs for his team so after over 50 installs he took a torch to the pad for a few seconds and the pad reinflated to like new W/no dents. Not sure why he did it but does demonstrate that the molecular structure was still intact so hence thermal capacity had not degraded.

At first: Thank you for the response :)

I'm sure you know the difference, whether paid overclockers and influencers, Amazon housewives or Youtubers take a look at something, or someone takes the test who brings over 25 years of experience from a real job in the industry. I tested here over 90 thermal solutions in the last 5 years under professional conditions. Please read my test again and especially the conclusion carefully, it wasn't any kind of bashing. Try to understand German (and the sense between the lines) and then please proof your arguments here. Google translate isn't a real help, it's a pain in the ass. Try better deepl.com and copy/paste the text into. I also pointed out, that this pads are nearly perfect for the specialists with the two left hands:)

...he took a torch to the pad for a few seconds and the pad reinflated to like new W/no dents. Not sure why he did it...
I'm also not sure, because it has absolutely nothing to do with cooling and the results of the article. It's paid entertainment for the uneducated masses.

This is from the edge of an Intel CPU - I'm using professional torque screwdriver to not exceed Intel's specs.

To understand the reason why, have a look at this:

1536641351216.png

And finally:
Did you read my findings about different surfaces? I made also over 50 runs, tried different CPUs, sockets and coolers to write a fair and objective conclusion. For my own interest I also tried silicone to remove the air completely. Better results in each case! But this makes the idea behind the pad totally needless. And exactly this is the problem. The target group for such a product. I'm sure, that 80% of our readers have no problem to use normal grease. This is the difference between the readers here and Amazon ;)

I like the idea behind, no discussion. But price and performance are a good reason to NOT use it in the SI business (in theory the best use case). This guys are fighting for each Cent and each washer or screw less or more. Their coolers are mostly so weak, that each degree more can decide about the final performance. And your target group? If I follow your arguments, this are the same people who bought exactly this SI crap before. And exactly this 80% of all users are mostly not able to remove a cooler without damaging the whole PC ;)

The experiences from a bigger local PC business here and the exact study of the customers and their problems show, that the target group might have completely different problems :D

BTW:
I know the costs and margins, the OEM/ODM business isn't a secret for me ;)

If anyone should buy this stuff it has to be cheaper. Much cheaper. The aforementioned 80% couldn't care less about what is between the heatspreader and the cooler. I know I haven't until I became interested in the technical aspects of PCs and hardware.
I'm very sure that no System Builder will go for an expensive solution like your pad(s).

These pads are too expensive. Neat idea, but will not work for the specified customer base. They dont care whats beetween cooler and CPU. (My experience) And price is the first priority on the list. It should be much cheaper to gain a customer base.

hm, i don't see it that critical, for a reasonable group of users it's a good solution - still and as pointed too expensive... but this is a start, a new type of product - brought by a company that knows how to do something like that - let's get the price as what it is, market entrance with the option to fall when not selling good enough ;)

so i would recommend this product to any person i think is able to replace a cooler without any damage but is not sure how to handle thermal grease and has no financial issue about that and is not willing to wait for a free support slot at my end *g* but better than no recommendation ;)
